FRENCH – KURDISH INTERNATIONAL WORK SHOP jointly organized by Salahaddin University, Department of Architecture and the French Institute in the Near East (Ifpo)

As a result of Ifpo conference in Sulaimania regarding cultural heritage on 10-11 may 2016 the idea to have a joint workshop started, then elaborated, to become as an opportunity for collaborative work with French institution including the Louvre Paris and Ecole de Chaillot, Paris University, in collaboration and support of the French embassy Baghdad French consulate Erbil and ifpo Erbil , Amman and Beirut




Workshop objectives:


·         Assist Salahaddin University to design a curriculum for an MSc in the preservation and revitalization of the built heritage in the prospect of the creation of a UNESCO Chair in Cultural Heritage. Topics covered under 'built heritage' are:

o   Study and intervention at the scale of the monuments, and on the urban and territorial environments;

o   Historical knowledge (history of arts, architecture, urbanism);

o   Socio-economic and anthropological/intangible value analysis;

o   Laws, regulations, and policy implementation.


·         Initiate collaborative programmes between participant institutions to deliver the curriculum.


This activity comes as part of preparations of the department of architecture for starting a UNESCO chair for cultural heritage
