On Monday 17/2/2025, in Civil Engineering Department with the presence a number of academic staff, a seminar entitled (Improving the geotechnical properties of medium expansive clay using various gradation) was presented by (Prof. Dr. Yousif Ismail Mawlood), Improving the geotechnical properties of medium expansive clay is essential for enhancing its stability and usability in construction projects. One effective approach involves modifying the clay with various gradations of granular materials, such as sand, gravel, or crushed stone. These materials help reduce the clay’s expansive nature by filling voids and improving its shear strength, compaction, and load-bearing capacity. Additionally, the introduction of non-expansive gradations can mitigate swelling and shrinkage behaviors, which are common in expansive clays, thereby minimizing structural damage. This technique not only enhances the engineering performance of the soil but also provides a cost-effective and sustainable solution for infrastructure development in regions with problematic clay soils.
