Sustainable commuting refers to transportation practices that reduce environmental impact, promote health, and contribute to a more sustainable urban environment. As urbanization accelerates, traditional commuting methods, such as single-occupancy vehicles, contribute to air pollution, traffic congestion, and energy inefficiency. Promoting sustainable commuting encourages the use of alternative transportation modes like walking, cycling, carpooling, and public transit, alongside innovative solutions such as electric vehicles and shared mobility services. These methods help decrease greenhouse gas emissions, lower fuel consumption, and reduce the carbon footprint of daily commutes. Additionally, sustainable commuting can improve public health by reducing air pollution and increasing physical activity. By creating accessible infrastructure, offering incentives, and promoting awareness, cities and communities can foster a culture of sustainable commuting, ultimately contributing to a cleaner, healthier, and more equitable urban future.
